MALTA
The Maltese islands are situated in the heart of the Mediterranean. Almost everyone speaks good English and there is a positive "can-do" attitude amongst most of the local crew. The islands double for several countries, including the Middle East, and are best known for films like Gladiator, WWZ, The Count of Monte Cristo and Games of Thrones.
The country offers a cash rebate of up to 40% which currently includes crew and equipment brought in from abroad.
The islands' small size provides the advantage of getting from one location to another typically within 30 minutes or less, although traffic is on the rise. The size also means that local professional crews are limited in numbers. Considering sizeable shoots of at least 60 crew members, there currently exists around 80% of an A-crew and 50% of a B-crew. The country hosts world famous water tanks. There are no sound stages as yet but warehouses sometimes serve as satisfactory alternatives when only one or two stages are required, provided time is allowed to search for them.
The government is currently on a drive to build at least one sound stage and also to renovate the water tanks since it took over the studio in 2014. - For more info visit Malta's most long-standing production service company founded in 2001: www.pcpmalta.com
